About
I build data and knowledge platforms: the pipelines, knowledge graphs and Python services that turn scattered information into something people can query, trust and build on.
Right now that’s CityGraph, the platform behind my Let’s Map Bainbridge project, which I designed and built as sole engineer over ten months. It joins OpenStreetMap, local-government GIS, museum collections and library records into a knowledge graph of 3,900+ people, places, buildings and vessels on Bainbridge Island, run by Dagster pipelines over Apache Jena Fuseki and PostGIS. I build it in close collaboration with AI coding agents (Claude Code with custom MCP servers): written designs and codified procedures up front, and I check the work as I go.
Before that: platform and data engineering at American Family Insurance, Winnebago, Attunely, EveryoneSocial and Phyn; back-end lead and co-inventor of a patented IoT tool-tracking system at RECON Dynamics, which ran on Puget Sound Energy crew trucks for years; and research software at the University of Sussex, including the telemetry extraction software that was running at ESA’s mission control when the four Cluster II spacecraft were launched in 2000.
What I enjoy most is bridging worlds: scientists and engineers, data scientists and developers, and these days local historians who’ve spent decades researching the island and a linked-data knowledge graph. I mentor, I write things down, and I do my best work on teams where experienced engineers share the load.
Looking for a staff-level role building data and knowledge platforms, especially where AI is involved. Remote (US) or Seattle area.
